Starbucks by Gr8 Nederland
In the early 1970s, the company was just one shop in Seattle's old Pike Place Market. From a small storefront, Starbucks sold a selection of the world's finest freshly roasted whole coffee beans. The name, which was inspired by Moby Dick, was reminiscent of the romanticism of the sea and the seafaring tradition of the first coffee traders.
From the start, Starbucks wanted to be a different kind of company: one that wasn't just about coffee and its rich tradition, but also about the sense of belonging.
Today, with 15,000 locations in 50 countries, Starbucks is the largest roaster and seller of specialty coffees in the world. And with every cup they try to bring to life not only our legacy but also a special experience for the customer.
Coffee and Cows
In 2017, Starbucks joined forces with the Coffee & Cows project, for small-scale coffee farmers in Rwanda's Nyaruguru District. They provide expertise to help farmers improve their sanitation, the production process and the quality of the coffee.
Once a year, Starbucks staff from around the world travel to Rwanda to learn about the origins of the coffee sold in the stores. As part of this experience, Starbucks staff will work with the farmers participating in the Coffee and Cows Project to gain insight into their daily lives and how the partnership with Starbucks is changing their future.
